What can you do in Gabon?
Gabon is a tropical country which is characterized by two rainy periods and two dry periods in a year.
The tropical forest represents 80% of Gabon which shelters a very rich and varied fauna, there are more than 700 species of birds and more than 150 species of mammals, in particular the great apes, gorillas, chimpanzees, mandrills, as well as a large population of forest elephants.
Going on a safari in the forests during the rainy season is quite a feat given the intensity of the rainfall.
We recommend, to take full advantage of your safari, to come to Gabon during dry periods, that is to say from June to September and December to February.
What can you do in Gabon during these different periods:
Your destination in Gabon will depend on the goals you set for yourself. You have several possibilities, observe and track the great apes, take a walk of several days in the tropical forest to discover the fauna and flora, or culturally get to know the different ethnic groups that inhabit Gabon.
#SafariMandrills and #chimpanzees in July August.
The #Lopé-Okanda park is home to the largest population of mandrills in Africa, around 100,000 individuals and around 2,000 chimpanzees. July and August or even September, the mating period is a good time to meet them.
To better approach them, we organize bivouacs over several days in the Lopé park, supervised by guides who know perfectly the habits of these great apes. The tracking will be done on foot over several hours through the savannah and the gallery forests and approach them to see them living in their natural environment and photograph them to immortalize these different moments.
Walk through #parcIvindo on foot for a week
Discover the tropical forest on foot for more than a week, discover the Kongou waterfalls, descend the Ivindo river by canoe, bivouac in the middle of the forest. You will have the opportunity to meet the forest elephants during your journey, feed yourself with the products of the fishing of your guides, and observe in the Baï de Langoué the wild fauna which comes to feed, in particular the elephant, the gorilla western plains, African buffalo, river hog, and a resident population of sitatunga as well as many bird species.
Go meet the #pygmies in the middle of the forest
From Lambaréné, descend the Ngounie River by canoe to discover the villages of the ethies, #Akele, Fang, and especially #Tsogo, and after a bivouac in the village of #Egono you will head towards the "Tranquille" village of the Pygmies on the ikobe track in the middle of the virgin forest in the Chaillu massif near the Waka park. During your stay in the "Tranqille" village, you will participate and discover a traditional way of life based on hunting (with a spear or assegai, traps and machetes), and collection (fruit, honey, etc.). In the evening you will attend the traditional rites practiced within the framework of dances of the Bwiti religion.#Akele, Fang, and especially #Tsogo, and after a bivouac in the village of #Egono you will head towards the "Tranquille" village of the Pygmies on the ikobe track in the middle of the virgin forest in the Chaillu massif near the Waka park.
